I received a ziploc bag of mushy stuff, two Sundays ago from a friend — day three of Amish Friendship Bread. It's a yeast mixture that hangs out in a bag for 10 days. Every day there is a step to it. Most days you mush the bag around and let the air out. On day six, you add some ingredients. On day 10, it's time to make bread; lots of it.
It comes with a standard recipe, but you can adjust it to make different kinds. I made banana bread, banana muffins and cinnamon bread. I wasn't sure what to expect, but was very happy with the results. I love to give food away, and this made more than enough to go around. I kept two starters in case I want to make more, closer to Christmas. So I'll be doing this again in 10 days. If you are interested in my extra starter, let me know. I'd be happy to give it away. In the directions it states, "Only the Amish know how to create a starter, so if you give them all away, you will have to wait until someone gives you a starter." I have one up for grabs.
What if you're good friends with an Amish person? Then you can just ask him. That is, if he is in to break baking and stuff. If not, you'd have to ask his wife or sister.
You have done it again! Both the cinnamon bread and banana muffins were amazing! I know it wouldn't have turned out that good if I had tried to do it. :) Thank you for sharing!!
Thanks for thinking of me to pass it along to. I'm glad you liked it!
