Denver Art Museum

Toward the end of our Colorado trip we went back to Denver to explore the Denver Art Museum. (The first time was for the Rockies baseball game). On our way there we stopped by a scenic area to do the touristy thing. That's Pike's Peak in the background.

Squinty eye picture, but I still like it. Me and my aunties.

My abstract interpretation of a sculpture outside the Art Museum

Big Sweep - Coosje van Bruggen and Claes Oldenburg (huge fan)

I wish I had one of these in my home, but I'll settle for a picture.

Modern chair design from talented designers all over the world. Eye spy with my little eye something that is Eames!

Another painting I wish I owned. The Violin - Roy Lichtenstein - 1976

Detail of The Radcliffe Family - Thomas Hudson - circa 1742

Detail of an early Chinese piece

Quantum Cloud XXXIII - Antony Gormley - 2000

So true

This was quite odd to see coming down the stairs on the Modern art floor. It's a very large display that wraps behind the stairs. Everything is red except for a the foxes.

Fox Games - Sandy Skoglund - 1989

My picture does not do this painting justice. It doesn't look like a painting at all. It looks like a photograph. I am curious to see other works by this artist.

Minotaur with Brushstrokes - Richard Patterson - 1998

Outdoor sculpture. This is one of my favorite shots from the entire vacation. I hope you enjoyed my small trip through the Denver Art Museum. If you go there, I recommend stopping by their restaurant Palettes for lunch or dinner. The food was yummy and the price wasn't bad either. I had a summer squash soup (best I've ever had) and a lightly curried chicken salad sandwich.

I heart faces theme: pets

This week's theme is "pets" but we can also enter a photo of any animal, not necessarily a pet. That's where I come in. Many that know me, know I'm not a "pet person". I've had some cats and dogs as a kid and loved them. But as an adult, it's just not my thing to take care of one. I do like pets, just in other people's homes. To each their own. I enjoy going to the zoo where I can appreciate God's creations from afar. Aquariums are my favorite. I went to the Denver Aquarium two weekends ago and captured an amazing creature, the lionfish, my invertebrate entry.

Through the lens

Today I'm taking you through Manitou Springs, Garden of the Gods and Old Colorado City. Two of my aunts met up with us halfway into our vacation. We invited them so they could experience what I have for the last three years in Colorado. Jake and I stay at our family's cabin each summer for a week or so. It's such a relaxing place to get away and escape (most) responsibility. These pictures are just a glimpse of our day.

Me and Aunt Sherry enjoying the car ride

Aunt Carol and I in Manitou Springs. We ate at PJ's Bistro. It took forever to get our food, but when we did, wow. The food was so tasty. I had a reuben with pasta salad. They switched the corned beef out for pastrami (which I prefer) and it had a very tangy, spicy dressing on it. Delish!

Garden of the Gods. Every time I see this image, I see the face of a boy looking to the left with his mouth open like he's scared. It's in the lightest part of the rock. Please tell me someone else sees this. Kinda freaky.

It's amazing how blue the sky was that day.

So happy together ... or a booty shot. However you see it.

Yummy ice cream. I had a scoop of dulce de leche of course! I enjoy anything that resembles caramel.

A day wouldn't be complete without a campfire.

Adventures in nature

During our Colorado vacation, Jake and I went on a couple of hikes around Woodland Park. This was the first day it was sunny out and we could walk around. Of course I brought my macro lens with me.

Bark on a tree
There were several days we came across deer walking around grazing. Pretty awesome stuff.

Swing batter batter swing!

The first four days of our Colorado trip were cold and rainy. Kind of a bummer, but we were on vacation, not working and naps were taken at least once a day. We stayed at our family's cabin in Woodland Park which is just outside of Colorado Springs. On Sunday we drove up to Denver, only an hour and a half away, to see the Rockies play. It was a cold and rainy drive. Upon arrival though, it stopped raining and the temp wasn't too bad with a jacket on.

City view from the Coors stadium

Since we were there to watch the ball game, I thought it'd be best to include an actual game playing photo. I really enjoy watching baseball, but I find the surrounding areas are more fun to take pictures of.
