My button collection

I love buttons. Some are red. And some are blue. Some are old. And some are new. (Shout out to Dr. Seuss). I created the buttons below to represent my age. Today, I added another button. Not just any old button, but one that represents a new decade in my life. A fresh start. A clean slate to my thirties. I can only hope I'm fortunate enough to have many more buttons and to make little buttons that look like my buttons.

Shots of inspiration

This week, I'm focusing on wine labels and spirits. No, I'm not promoting alcohol just the packaging. So many varieties, so many labels. Some are poorly designed, others stand out. The Boxhead Shiraz below is one I came across and bought for the interesting label plus it was a Shiraz (my fave) double bonus. It's fun and executed well which makes it standout in the sea of sameness on the shelves. The others below have caught my eye in one way or another.

Vintage finds

I've really cut back on my vintage browsing at antique stores, but I do hit up estate sales when I have time. Sometimes I find a little something and sometimes not. I like estate sales for that reason. Here's my recent finds over the past few months.

Vintage tin toaster. I think this is adorable! I found this at a DAV store. It pairs nicely with my spinning tops.

Not sure if this is vintage, but a great find for my living room.

Juice carafe with two matching juice glasses + 2 similar orange glasses. Occasionally, I purchase something to list on here in case others want it. This is one of them. If your interested, drop me a line.

Teal vintage suitcase

Random glass jars. I have crafty plans for these.

I've started collecting these recently, but it takes awhile to build up the collection. There are so many vintage lanterns out there but way over-priced if you ask me. I got a excellent deal on this and the color couldn't be better. It's in excellent condition with a little clean up.

Book club pick for May

SYNOPSIS
The novel, set in post- Spanish Civil War Barcelona, concerns a young boy, Daniel. Just after the war, Daniel's father takes him to the secret Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a huge library of old, forgotten titles lovingly preserved by a select few initiates. According to tradition, everyone initiated to this secret place is allowed to take one book from it, and must protect it for life. Daniel selects a book called The Shadow of the Wind by Julian Carax. That night he takes the book home and reads it, completely engrossed.
Daniel then attempts to look for other books by this unknown author, but can find none. All he comes across are stories of a strange man - calling himself Lain Coubert, after a character in the book who happens to be the Devil - who has been seeking out Carax' books for decades, buying them all and burning them. In time this mysterious figure seeks out Daniel and attempts to make him part with the book. Terrified, Daniel returns the book to the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. But by now Danielis already in the middle of a story that began many years ago, and will come to threaten his own life.

Fix-it Friday

It's time for another installment of Fix-it Friday.
ORIGINAL

VERSION 1
I really wanted to bring out her eyes so I changed her hat and scarf to green! This also helped differentiate between the foreground and background. There were so many steps to get here, I wouldn't even know where to start. I used Camera Raw and PS—CS3 for all my edits.

A dose of Inspiration: earth

ECO BAGS
For Earth Day today, I'm featuring a friend of mine that sells Eco Bags and Eco-friendly apparel at earthawareness.com. She works with a local artist in Wichita to design the bags. The bags are then printed by Skreened made to order. If you haven't heard of Skreened, you'll be happy to know they are responsible in sourcing, committed to the earth, use water-based inks for printing and they make investments to projects on kiva.org. The bags may seem a bit pricer than what you can buy at your local grocery store, but you know where these originated from, plus they will last much longer than a $2 bag. It's perfect for books, laptops, lunches and groceries. I use mine everyday! Here are some of my favorite designs.

REUSE YOUR TEES
I first came across this post on my friend's blog, Kommunicated. You take your old graphic tees, do a little snip and sew action and turn it into a t-shirt dress for a little one. Simply adorable. The online tutorial can be found at our hartbeat.

March for babies walk

I walked for March of Dimes this year for the first time. Thanks to your support I was able to raise enough just beyond my goal, $205 to be exact. I was apart of The Wilson Triplets team. Collectively we raised $1885 for March of Dimes. Way to go team! I walked with my friends Maranda and Jimmy and their triplets, also my sis-in-law Jen and my niece and nephew. I'm so thankful I was apart of their team this year. There three girls always bring a smile to my face, and Maranda and Jimmy's families are just a genuinely kind group of people to be around. The festivities were held at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, home of Wingnuts baseball, seriously who comes up with these mascots, and we walked one mile around the river. The walk in pics.

Izzy, Lily and Audrey

The Wilson's were also the Ambassador family this year. Maranda told their story to everyone, and the kids waved at the crowd.

Morgan and Cole - very well behaved!

Audrey full of smiles

Lily enjoying the ride. I was tempted to get in so Maranda could pull me around.

Izzy doing a little jumping

Loving the hair
