Another addition to the cake family. This was made for my friend's daughter, Lauren. My instructions were to not spend much time on it (like the other cakes I tend to make) and to keep it simple. I made a party hat for the mess cake and a three-tiered cake for the rest of the party people.
My favorite part of this cake is the lettering. I wanted it to be more fun than the standard, straight-lined message. I cut out each letter by hand with an xacto blade and played around with the placement.
I haven't covered a cake with frosting in quite awhile since I've been doing fondant work. I should have thinned out the icing a bit so it spread easier and had a cleaner look. But it tasted great, and was happy with it overall.
